- Step 4: Attach swing seat
The swing is part of the basic equipment in the child-friendly garden. For the home gardener with manual skills, it is a matter of honor to build the garden swing yourself. This guide explains how to do it in 4 steps.

Step 1: Preparatory work and list of materials
First dig 4 holes with a depth of 50 cm, arranged in a square shape at a distance of 200 cm from each other. Then fill each hole with 20 cm of fine-grained grit (€46.95). The following material is required for further work:
- 1 round beam, 250 cm long, 15 cm diameter
- 2 round bars, 150 cm long, 12 cm diameter
- 4 round bars, 300 cm long, 12 cm diameter
- 10 threaded bolts, 30 cm long, 12 mm diameter
- 20 washers with nuts M 12
- 1 finished swing seat with accessories
- 1 swing suspension
- 1 bag of concrete
Step 2: Build the frame for the garden swing
Join the 4 round beams with a length of 300 cm in such a way that 2 cross each other at a height of 250 cm. At this point, attach continuous threaded bolts for fixation, secured with washers and nuts. Each of the two V-shaped constructions is stabilized with a 150 cm long round beam, which you screw on on both sides with threaded bolts, washers and nuts. How to proceed:
- Attach the swing suspension in the middle of the 15 cm thick round beam as a crossbar
- For best security, only use continuous threaded bolts and screw on the opposite side
- Insert the round bar into the upper crosses of the V-shaped side parts
Fix the cross bar to the beams of the side parts with threaded bolts, washers and nuts.
Step 3: Set up the swing
Now pour the concrete into the holes filled with grit up to a few centimeters below the top edge. In it you position the two V-shaped sides of the swing frame and align them precisely. Only after the concrete has hardened do you tackle the fourth step of the installation work.
Step 4: Attach swing seat
On the hardened concrete, fill the holes completely with crushed stone. Now you can hang in the ready-made swing seat. Before your children start having fun on the swing, subject the stability of the entire construction to an endurance test and swing yourself first.
tips
The ideal location for a garden swing is at least 3 meters away from walls, trees, fences and other obstacles. The sandbox and playhouse should be even further apart so that children do not run in front of a swinging playmate in the heat of the moment. A soft surface, such as sand or grass, is important so that small crash pilots fall softly.
