With a wooden pavilion you give your garden an atmospheric colour. Since there are no walls here, the construction does not require a special building permit and is easier to assemble than a gazebo. These building instructions explain how to build a garden pavilion yourself.

Preparatory work and list of materials
A detailed planning drawing ensures that the construction work runs smoothly. We recommend using local types of wood such as spruce, pine, larch or Douglas fir. Ideally, you should have the wood cut to size in a specialist company. The following materials and tools are needed to make a hexagonal wooden gazebo:
- 6 high posts with bolts as a device for attaching
- 6 pieces of wood for the frame
- 12 slightly shorter rafters (the longer these wooden beams, the higher the roof)
- 12 short beams as supports for the roof frame
- roof boards
- roofing felt or bitumen sheeting
- metal rail
- 6 post shoes
- Bolts, screws, metal brackets
- concrete
The tools required are: spirit level, hammer, saw, drill, (97.00€) ladder, folding rule, tape measure and carpenter's pencil.
Building instructions - step-by-step to the garden pavilion
Accurately measure the locations for the posts. In the right places you dig pits 60 cm deep and pour concrete in them to anchor the post shoes. After the concrete has dried for more than 2 days, screw the corner posts into the metal shoes. Use the spirit level to repeatedly check the vertical alignment of each post. How to proceed:
- Assemble the roof construction from the 6 wooden beams
- First measure the roof frame in all angles and correct if necessary
- With a helping hand, push the roof frame onto the studs on the posts
Now attach small, sloping beams to the left and right of each post to support the roof frame. Screwed on at a 45-degree angle, you ensure better stability of the entire roof construction.
Building instructions for a shapely pavilion roof
Starting with the six corner posts, now assemble the roof braces. With a good sense of proportion and a ruler, the struts come together precisely in the middle and are bolted to each other and to the roof frame. Please choose a roof pitch that allows rainwater and snow to run off easily. The roof gets a decorative swing when the struts protrude a little beyond the frame construction. To finish the roof:
- Screw the roof boards seamlessly onto the struts
- Attach the metal rail to the lower edge of the roof
- Attach roofing felt or cover with bitumen sheeting
There are various alternatives to the wooden roof panels for the design of the pavilion roof. A garden pavilion looks very harmonious if the roof tiles of the residential building are repeated on its roof. A metal roof goes well with the modern garden style. A variant that is close to nature is the pent roof with green roofs.
tips
If you have created a seat in the idyllic garden corner, a wooden pavilion provides a stylish roof. Neither blazing sunshine nor pounding rain can drive you and your visitors out of the cozy niche.
