Many people draw their spiritual strength from the Far Eastern teachings of Feng Shui. The principles of Chinese harmony can be wonderfully applied to garden design. Dive into a pool of creative tips on how to create your own personal Feng Shui garden.

Water stands for career and wealth

What is behind the term Feng Shui?

The approaches of the Far Eastern Feng Shui philosophy are based on the thesis that a happy life depends on the balance of the five elemental forces fire, earth, wood, metal and water. Only when these elements are in balance can the positive life energy Chi flow freely.

According to the Bagua grid, there are nine areas of life that are to be designed according to the principles of Feng Shui. The individual rooms gather around the Thai Chi center in fixed cardinal directions, which are additionally reinforced by an element in their positive effect on your life:

  • Career in the north: strengthened by water
  • Glory in the South: boosted by fire
  • Family in the east: strengthened by wood
  • Children in the west: reinforced by metal

To the south-west is the Partnership zone, reinforced by the Earth element. Wealth is located in the south-east of the garden, enhanced by the element of wood. In the north-east, shape the zone of knowledge, reinforced by earth. If you create the room for helpful friends in the north-west, integrate the metal element into the design plan.

Including bagua zones in the garden design - this is how it works

Draw a floor plan that takes into account the division of your garden according to the nine bagua zones. You can tolerate minor imperfections or overlaps as long as the entire surface largely fits. Now you can let your creativity run free to design the individual regions. The following tips serve as a suggestion:

  • Career: winding paths, a stream, groves with hanging branches, bluebells and garden orchids
  • Glory: a fireplace, fragrant roses or lilacs, lamps and stone lanterns
  • Family: Seating area with a wooden bench, a fountain, vigorously growing plants such as bamboo or summer lilac
  • Children: playground equipment, sandbox, berry bushes, round beech trees, small snack garden with vegetables
  • Partnership: square beds with red and yellow flowers, a rock garden or cottage garden
  • Wealth: wooden buckets with geraniums or high-stem roses, a fountain as the water source
  • Knowledge: Plants in shades of yellow, orange and brown, an arbor as a seat, gravel bed or rock garden
  • helpful friends: small seating area, yellow gold flowers like daffodils, metal chimes
  • Tai Chi Center: Gravel areas, statues or a herbal spiral as an eye-catcher

If you create your garden according to Feng Shui, it must not appear overloaded. Flowing transitions and recurring colors create calm and serenity in appearance.

tips

The bagua zone family in the east is perfect for setting up a gazebo here. Family members primarily gather here for cozy hours. In addition, the wood element has a strengthening effect on the positive energies in this area, which is beneficial for family peace.
