Although the heated natural pool is far removed from all the original ideas of the swimming pond pioneers, prolonged bathing pleasure is becoming a trend among pond owners. The technical effort is not insignificant, but does not represent a major hurdle for an experienced specialist company.

It is easier to think about the heating when you build it than to retrofit it

If you don't want to wear a wetsuit and still want to swim laps in the natural pool in early spring, you won't be able to avoid heating your swimming pond. The motivation of most pond owners is not necessarily that they want the water to be particularly warm, but they aim for (almost) year-round use of the pool, at least from the beginning of spring.

Warm water extends the bathing season

Since the natural pool is usually divided into a separate bathing and regeneration area from a structural point of view, it can be assumed that pond water can be heated up to 28 °C without hesitation, without any existing plants being damaged. Nevertheless, you have to be aware that the higher the water temperature, the greater the formation of pathologically harmful germs, so that allergy sufferers or bathers with less stable health could have problems. It is therefore important to ensure that warm water flows evenly through the swimming area in particular in order to avoid the so-called "dead zones", which are particularly susceptible to the spread of pathogens and algae.

Technical possibilities of swimming pond heating

Continuous heating of the pond water not only requires a well thought-out pipe system, the control technology must also be perfectly matched to the water volume and the dimensioning of a functioning filter system. The following systems are used as possible heat sources:

  • Boiler heating (serves mainly as storage);
  • Swimming pool absorbers (hoses mostly mounted on the house roof);
  • Residential building heating system in connection with heat exchangers;
  • solar panels;

When dimensioning the heat generator, you have to keep in mind that an 80 kW heater is required to bring water (in a quantity of 80,000 liters) from 15 °C to a temperature of 20 °C, so that bathing in the pool without goosebumps is possible well-tempered swimming pond will not be cheap.

Expert advice is required when retrofitting the pool heating system

Questions about the necessary technology, such as the optimal use of heat exchangers or solar collectors, should be discussed with a specialist company as early as the planning stage. Depending on the construction and usage habits of the swimming pond owner, you still have to reckon with costs of between 10,000 and 15,000 euros for a medium-sized pool.

tips

Since possible contamination should be ruled out for hygienic reasons, according to German law, the water from the pond area may not be used for the heat cycle within the swimming pond heating, so that fresh water must be fed into the system regularly.
