- Compact and powerful: Electric heaters with fans
- Heating with propane gas
- Paraffin heaters, ideal for small houses
Of course, the first thing greenhouse owners think of during these months is the issue of heating, which becomes acute in warm houses with the onset of the first night frosts. You will find several interesting articles in our garden journal on the technical basics as well as the facts for calculating the heat requirements of greenhouses.

A surprisingly large number of heating systems are available from the relevant specialist dealers, which does not exactly make the right choice easy. When it comes to purchasing a greenhouse heater, we first differentiate between three types that are used for greenhouses that are used all year round (€77.12):
- electric heaters
- gas powered heaters (fuel: propane, natural gas, or catalytic)
- paraffin heaters
To do this, we took a closer look at Biogreen, a Hessian company from Bischoffen-Oberweidbach that has been known for high-quality greenhouse accessories for several years. We were primarily interested in the technical details of the heating units, but we also wanted to get an overview of the current prices.
Compact and powerful: Electric heaters with fans
The fan performance of the four differently sized, energy-saving devices is between 163 and 460 m3/h, the maximum heating output is 2,800 watts. Depending on the model, they are equipped with splash water protection, stainless steel housing, digital thermostat, frost protection function and several power levels. The top model for just under 300.00 euros not only heats up to 26 °C, but also ensures pleasant cooling in summer. The most affordable electric parking heater with an output of 2,000 watts has a temperature monitor that can be positioned as required (-5 to 85 °C) and is available with over 150 m3/h of air circulation for EUR 99.95.
Heating with propane gas
Ideal for cold frames and small greenhouses up to 3 m2, the cheapest model for operation with propane gas but without a thermostat costs 69.95 euros or 114.95 euros for houses twice the size. Our recommendation would be the 269.95 euro Frosty propane gas heater, which also emerged as the winner in a practical test conducted by the DIY magazine “Selbst ist der mann”. The most important technical data:
- control range 0 to 25 °C;
- oxygen deficiency backup;
- power 2,500 watts;
- antifreeze function;
- very good heat distribution thanks to radiation grids;
- Wall and floor mounting possible;
Paraffin heaters, ideal for small houses
These devices, which are very small in design but are very attractively priced, are used in greenhouses for which the generated anti-frost climate of between 5 and 8 °C is sufficient. Premium paraffin, which is available from Biogreen for EUR 23.95 (4-liter canister), is used as the operating medium. The individual burners in a robust steel construction ensure good heat distribution even in hard-to-reach places in the greenhouse, their price starts at just under 12.00 euros. The top device (59.95 euros) for houses up to 5 m2 in size has a particularly long burning time, as it is equipped with a 33 cm XL wick. The most important characteristics of the Warmax Power 5:
- Burn time per filling (4.5l): 3.5 hours;
- Heat output: 600 watts;
- Weight: 1.9kg
