In most cases it is not even necessary to visit the hardware store in order to be able to build a small indoor greenhouse yourself with simple means from the leftovers box. Even if you don't get huge yields, a few kitchen herbs will fall off and it's also fun when everything sprout green.

A greenhouse can be easily built from recycled materials

Parents who try to make gardening a little more palatable for their children do it, people who have little or no greenery around their city apartment do it too, because building a greenhouse yourself usually succeeds within a few minutes. The materials and tools for building your own are probably already lying around somewhere in the hobby room, so that the effort required for assembly is kept within limits, like our boxes in the picture, which were originally filled with tangerines.

Simple indoor greenhouse made from fruit crates

Certainly there is also more decorative room furniture that can be bought ready-made. But even a little color works wonders here. The small Mini stairways measuring 20 by 30 cm fit easily on the window sill and after sowing can be easily packed using a simple shrink film. When the seedlings start to sprout after a few days, the mini greenhouse no longer needs to be covered. If it can be a size larger, the 12 kg fruit crates, which you should ask a friendly market trader for, have almost ideal dimensions. A more stable plastic film is suitable for lining the walls, in which a few small holes are scored to improve the air and moisture regulation of the planting soil.

Location of the green oasis in the living area

The room in which the indoor greenhouse will be placed should not be overheated. Most plants Temperatures between 15 and 20 °C are sufficient with as much daylight as possible. If the sun shines too hard, it is best to turn the mini house by 180 degrees after a few hours. Parsley and many other kitchen herbs are particularly well suited for cultivation, although they should be cut off regularly to just above the ground if they grow vigorously. The indoor greenhouse that you can build yourself is also ideal for growing young plants, which can be sown as early as the end of winter.

tips

Excessive exposure to the sun can be particularly damaging to seedlings that have just emerged. The disturbing UV radiation can be reduced to a tolerable level with a lowered window blind.
