Laying large pond liners is not as easy as it first appears. In our article, you can read why a wrinkle-free installation is important and how to proceed correctly.

Pond liner should best be laid in summer

Important when laying pond liners

Especially if you lay PVC foils, you have to be particularly careful when laying them. EPDM foils are a bit less of a problem as they are a bit more stable and resilient overall.

You should pay particular attention to the following points when laying PVC foils:

  • the temperature should be as summery as possible (here is the explanation)
  • always lay the foil on a bed of sand if possible
  • insert a pond fleece underneath the liner, this will give the liner additional protection

The most important thing is that you manage the slide wrinkle free relocate. It must snuggle up to the ground and fit snugly there. In order to do this, a few things are necessary.

Enough helpers

Always organize enough helpers to lay the film. One should definitely lend a hand - the more, the better. For larger foils over 50 m² you will definitely need 2 - 3 helpers.

Unroll foil correctly

When films are supplied they should normally be fanned out on one side and rolled on the other side. You can place the liner on a corner of the pond and unfold it directly into the pond.

Attach pond fleece

When you have laid the pond fleece, you should attach it to the edges of the pond. Otherwise it can slip under the film and form creases, which in turn lead to creases in the film. However, only use fasteners that will not damage the film when placed over it.

Gather small folds

If creases do form, smooth out smaller creases towards the corners of the pond so that a single, large crease forms there. You can then fold them back and glue them together if you want.

complain slide

After laying, you should fill the pond about a third full. Put a layer of gravel on terraces in the pond. Leave the pond like this for at least a day, this will press the liner better into the ground. Only then do you fill the pond completely.

tips

Make sure that you wear suitable footwear - it should definitely have rounded sole profiles and no stones should be able to get stuck in them, otherwise you could damage the film. If in doubt, it is best to work barefoot.
