A small pond can significantly enhance a garden, even more a small stream that runs through the garden. You can read in our article how to line the stream with foil and which foils are suitable for this.

create streams
Basically, it is not much more difficult to create a stream than to build a pond. There are just a few things to keep in mind when it comes to the Bach:
- Streams should definitely be laid out in the shade or semi-shade (to avoid excessive water loss through evaporation in summer)
- the same bank height and the capillary barrier on the banks (small gravel ditch) must be carried out very carefully here
- the course must be carefully planned
You then have several options for sealing the creek bed:
- a concrete bed
- so-called stream shells
- pond liner
concrete bed
Pouring a concrete bed is laborious, but a very good option. You have to dig the trench a little deeper to be able to concrete. The main advantage here is its durability and robustness.
However, keep in mind that you will not be able to correct the run later (e.g. if you want to rearrange something in the garden).
stream bowls
These shells are mostly made of either glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) or stainless steel (rarely). Their advantage lies in the fact that they are very easy to work with and are often offered as complete sets. This allows you to create your watercourse with significantly less effort than with other elements, and you don't need to bother with capillary barriers or sealing measures.
The disadvantage here, however, is the high price. "Small" complete sets for a distance of only 1.50 meters often cost around EUR 150, individual elements in lengths of 50 - 60 cm to supplement often cost just as much. However, the durability is very good and the elements are also environmentally neutral and organic.
pond liner
Pond liner is the cheapest and most flexible form of stream lining. However, you often have to install additional stabilizing elements so that the pond liner does not slip. In this case, you must pay close attention to the capillary barrier. It is best to dig a small, gravel-filled ditch on either side of the bank that runs parallel to the pond.
A stone liner to cover the pond liner offers protection. This protects the seal even more and offers a more natural look than laid pond liner.
tips
If you create a stream with pond liner, you will certainly have the greatest effort, but the lowest costs. It also gives you more flexibility than other methods if you want to change the history later.
