- The best way to solve the raw material question is collectively
- You don't have to go to the hardware store to buy materials
- Assembly of the house walls
- The horticultural benefit remains manageable
In a modern consumer society, all sorts of things can still be made from old materials, for example a greenhouse made from PET bottles. Despite the short lifespan of such a recycling building, it is sufficient for growing young plants in the spring and is a good example of ecological common sense.

Not guaranteed to be completely watertight later on, but the idea of building a greenhouse out of PET bottles will definitely work as an ergotherapeutic healing method. In any case, such an unusual project is a contribution worth imitating for a sustainable and environmentally conscious way of life and is therefore typical of allotment gardeners. Before the material is together, however, it has to be diligently collected for quite a while.
The best way to solve the raw material question is collectively
Finally, for the construction of the greenhouse made of PET bottles with a size of 1.50 by 2.00 meters easily around 1,400 two-liter bottles on it. Collecting non-returnable bottles, such as water or coke, would not be a cheap solution for such a small house, given the loss of deposit income of 350.00 euros. But still: The fun factor of these buildings is immense and their owners will not have to complain about astonished onlookers in front of the property either.
You don't have to go to the hardware store to buy materials
Most of the utensils can be found either in nature or on the rummage tables of flea market traders. Because if it's supposed to be recycling and sustainable building, then do it right. So get ambitious ecos:
- PET bottles (without a cap and the bottom is cut out);
- Bamboo sticks that fit the diameter of the neck of the bottle (approx. 60 - 80 for the above size);
- wooden beams (which are bolted to a frame with angle connectors);
- roofing material (corrugated sheets, ideal are light sheets made of polycarbonate);
- screws and nails;
Assembly of the house walls
The ones strung on the bamboo sticks, bottles that are as clean and transparent as possible are nailed individually in a wooden frame on top. For reasons of stability, a house wall can also be made from several frames, which are then screwed together to form a larger side part. At least now it becomes clear that a greenhouse made of PET bottles will not be available weatherproof and thus an additional watering device for the plants is superfluous.
The horticultural benefit remains manageable
Above all, owners of such an architecturally valuable building must be content with the fact that they can grow young plants in their greenhouse made of PET bottles during the spring months. It will probably be just as unsuitable for the frost-proof overwintering of exotic plants as it is for yield-oriented vegetable rearing.
tips
In order to get to your destination faster, it is best to mobilize a school class or the surrounding neighborhood to collect bottles. For the external statics and an appropriate water balance inside the house, it is best to use bottles of the same size made of material that is not too thin.
