Although indoor firs are quite robust and not very susceptible to disease, they are not unjustly considered difficult to keep. They not only react to incorrect care with brown or yellow needles, but often also with drooping branches. A wrong location or too much moisture are almost always responsible.

There can be different backgrounds when the pine tree lets its leaves droop

Causes of drooping branches of pine trees

  • Room air too warm
  • too wet root ball
  • frequent bumping against the branches

The fact that the fir leaves its branches hanging almost always happens during the winter. During this time, the air in the room is too warm for indoor firs due to the heaters.

The plant is often watered too often, so that the root ball is simply too wet.

Another problem with caring for a silver fir is that the plant is very sensitive to touch. She doesn't like it at all when her branches are constantly bumped, for example because you bump into them while walking or the cat tampers with them.

A good location for your silver fir

In order to prevent the pine tree from letting its branches droop, you have to place them much cooler in winter than in summer. The temperatures at the place of hibernation should be between five and ten degrees - not more. Place the indoor fir in a light but sheltered, cool place.

Water significantly less in winter than in summer. The root ball should always be very moderately moist - but it must not dry out completely.

Can the indoor fir still be saved?

Once the branches of the fir hang down, you can no longer do anything about it. Even in a better location and with proper care, they will not straighten up again.

Nevertheless, you should ensure that a root ball that is too wet dries out as quickly as possible.

Position the pine tree so that it does not get in the way and you do not touch the branches when you walk by.

tips

If the branches not only hang down, but fall off completely, the air is too dry or a dried-out root ball is responsible. Provide higher humidity by setting up bowls and spraying the needles.
