In principle, it is not necessary to cut an indoor fir tree. You can make many mistakes when cutting, which seriously disturb the elegant and even appearance. Care must be taken when pruning as pine trees do not sprout from the scrap wood.

Reasons for pruning a fir tree
There are a few reasons to prune a fir tree in the first place. If you want to preserve the appearance of the tree, you should think carefully about whether you really need to use scissors.
- capping lace
- shorten branches
- remove branches that are too dense
- win offshoots
What happens when you cut a pine tree?
If you decide to cut a tree, remember that the tree will not sprout again from the old wood. Branches or tips that you cut off are irretrievably lost. If you cut off the top, it will no longer grow back, but the tree will have several tops. Sometimes the indoor fir even dies afterwards.
You should therefore only cut branches that are too close together or that have brown or yellow needles. You can also cut branches that are hanging down, as they will no longer recover and straighten up.
Long branches that disturb the overall picture of the fir should be shortened directly above a branch so that the pruning does not catch the eye too much.
Never leave stubs when cutting
Cut any branches that you want to remove entirely, right at the trunk. Don't leave butts.
Multiply the fir tree with offshoots
It doesn't make much sense to propagate an indoor fir tree with offshoots. You must be allowed to cut the top of the tree. This destroys the appearance. This type of propagation is only worthwhile if the tree is very old and you want to dispose of it soon anyway.
Taking cuttings from the side branches works occasionally. However, the offshoots sprout very unevenly and appear rather shaggy.
It is therefore better to propagate an indoor fir from seeds that you can get in stores. In indoor culture, the indoor fir itself does not form any seeds.
tips
Since, like all conifers, pine trees do not sprout from the old wood, they are not necessarily suitable as bonsai. Since the plants in room culture are rarely higher than two meters anyway, it is not worth the effort.
