In order for the flamingo flower to bloom magnificently and form strong foliage, it must be fertilized regularly, like all plants. However, this requires a sure instinct, because the magnificent flowering wonder quickly responds to mistakes in care with leaf discoloration or it shoots a lot of leaves, but the flowers do not form. It is also important not only to fertilize when the anthurium is already showing signs of deficiency.

The Anthurium is very hungry for nutrients

Here you can find out:

  • Which fertilizer is the right one.
  • When to fertilize.
  • How often is fertilized.
  • How much fertilizer you are allowed to put in the water.
  • What else to consider when fertilizing.

Which means is suitable?

You can feed anthuriums with a commercially available liquid fertilizer for flowering plants. Long-lasting fertilizer sticks (€4.48) are also good. If you grow the plant in hydroponics, be sure to use a special fertilizer for hydroponics!

When is fertilized?

Although the anthurium on the windowsill often blooms all year round, a hibernation of about eight weeks is good for the plant. Do not fertilize at all during this time and resume the usual fertilizing interval in spring.

How often is fertilized

Most houseplants should be routinely fed once a week. The flamingo flower, on the other hand, only needs fertilizer every two weeks. Accordingly, fertilizer sticks last twice as long as stated on the packaging.

How much fertilizer can be given?

Over-fertilization causes damage to all plants and should be avoided at all costs. Half the dosage of a commercially available liquid fertilizer is sufficient for weak consumers such as the Anthurium. Halve the fertilizer sticks and stick only half of the indicated amount into the soil.

In hydroponics, fertilizer is used less frequently. Here it can be sufficient to fertilize the flamingo flower only two or three times during the entire growing season. The same applies here: Only administer half of the dosage indicated on the packaging.

tips

When you fertilize, the soil should not be too dry, as this could damage the roots. It has proven useful to water sparingly at first and only add the water with the fertilizer a few hours later.
