In nature, hemp palms bear fruits that are edible and even taste quite good. In order to develop fruit, however, the hemp palm must already be mature, since young palms do not flower. When caring for the fan palms in our latitudes, fruits that you can harvest rarely develop.
The fruits of the hemp palm can be eaten

In order for a hemp palm tree to bear fruit, it must first bloom and the flowers must be pollinated. However, a hemp palm tree only blooms when it is already several years old and therefore fully grown.
If you only care for a hemp palm in the room, it will only rarely bloom. You will have a little more luck if you grow the hardy hemp palm outdoors all year round.
Female and male hemp palms required
In order for the flowers of a hemp palm to be fertilized, you need at least one female and one male plant. Hemp palms are dioecious. You can tell which sex your hemp palm has by looking at the flowers. They differ in color. For laypersons, however, it is not easy to determine the gender.
In the most favorable case, pollination is carried out by insects. However, you often have to take care of the fertilization yourself. To do this, first stroke the male and then the female flowers with a brush.
This is what the edible hemp palm fruits taste like
Hemp palm fruit tastes quite sweet and is full of flesh when harvested and consumed fresh from the tree. They are initially green in color, turning dark purple when fully ripe. Their shape is slightly rounded and resembles a kidney. The skin of the fresh fruit is still thin and can be easily removed.
However, they are very small and have a large core, so it is not worth growing hemp palms just for the edible fruit.
The average size of a fruit is 13 millimeters in length and 9 millimeters in height and width. The core is only slightly smaller, leaving little flesh to eat.
