In the competent cultivation of bromeliads, irrigation is of particular importance. A distinction is made between potted and tied plants. Read here how to water the tropical houseplant properly at any time of the year.

Pour bromeliads correctly in the pot - pay attention to these 3 things
In indoor culture, bromeliads usually thrive potted in soil. Since the exotic flowering and ornamental foliage plants usually do not take care of themselves through their roots, watering plays a key role in care. The focus is on the funnel (€4.85) that the rosette of leaves forms, the substrate and the quality of the water. How to do it right:
- Only use lime-free water with a temperature of at least 15 degrees Celsius
- Pour the water into the funnel
- At the same time, keep the substrate constantly slightly moist
How often you refill the water in the funnel and water the substrate depends on the time of year, the location, the bromeliad species and the temperature. A general statement cannot be made here. Regular substrate checks and the filling level in the cistern ensure that there is neither drought stress nor waterlogging.
Change the water in the funnel regularly
If excess water collects in the saucer, pour it out after 30 minutes at the latest to prevent waterlogging. The water in the rosette funnel should be replaced once a month.
tips
Tied bromeliads are not watered through the funnel. In this case, regularly spray the entire plant with soft water at room temperature. Again, how often a mist is required depends on site conditions. The spectrum ranges from daily watering in summer to week-long intervals in winter.
