The exotic-looking and often imposing-looking bow hemp (Sansevieria) comes from the warm and dry regions of South Africa. However, the plant is not only widespread there, but can also be found on the Arabian Peninsula and in many parts of Asia. In our latitudes, the plant thrives primarily as a houseplant, but in southern Europe (especially in the Mediterranean region) it can also be planted out in the garden.

Bow hemp should be as bright as possible

Bow hemp prefers sun, warmth and high humidity

Sansevierias do not necessarily need a location in full sun - on the contrary, because this can also result in severe leaf burns if they are not acclimated - but this should be as light to half-shady as possible. In particular, the cultivars with the "colorful" (ergo marbled or variegated leaves) need the light, since the drawings only develop when there is sufficient brightness. Otherwise, the plant can also stand in darker to shady corners without any problems - bow hemp is not very choosy in this regard. A lot of heat and high humidity would also be an advantage, which is why a spot on the windowsill in the bright daylight bathroom is best suited.

tips

In summer you can also place the bow hemp on the balcony or terrace. But before that, get him used to the sun slowly!
