Sansevierias - as the bow-tie is also known - are decorative indoor plants that are eye-catching with their fleshy, sword-like leaves that are up to 150 centimeters high. The fascinating succulents are also extremely easy to care for - perfect for living room culture.

Flower spikes in spring
In old age, snails sometimes form flowers, but only very rarely. These white, yellow, pink, or greenish-white flowering racemes appear in winter or early spring, with each shoot flowering only once. Provided that nocturnal pollination by moths has taken place, the flowers develop into reddish berries in autumn. These contain seeds from which new plants can be grown. In contrast to many other succulents, the shoot does not die after flowering but continues to grow.
Propagating bow hemp by seeds
Temperatures of at least 20 °C (better 25 to 30 °C) as well as high humidity are necessary for strong young plants to grow from the seeds of the sheet hemp. You can also buy seeds of different varieties on the Internet or in specialist shops. How to germinate the seeds:
- Fill a plastic pot with cactus soil or perlite.($37.51)
- Put the seeds on it, but do not cover them with substrate.
- Moisten seeds and substrate well
- and cover both with a plastic cover.
- This can be, for example, a PET bottle that has been cut off,
- a ziplock bag, a freezer bag or even a greenhouse.
- Place the jar in a bright and very warm place
- for example on a window sill directly above a heater.
- Always keep the humidity high under the cover
- and have patience.
- It can take a few weeks to months for the first green tips to appear.

It is even easier to reproduce bow hemp by leaf cuttings or by division than propagation via seeds. With the latter, separate offshoots and simply plant them separately in a new pot.
