Fastening on stone - This is how it works with a hair net
Since moss does not need roots, it is one of the few plants that can grow on stone. This process can be accelerated by offering moss a holding device for the fine cell threads (rhizoids). This can be done inexpensively and easily with the help of delicate hair nets, which are available in every drugstore. This is how the plan works:
- Wet the stone well
- Put the fresh moss on the stone
- Put the fine hair net over it
On the opposite side of the stone, tie the ends of the net together with twine or a cable tie. If you now discover moss-free spots on the stone, you can put more moss under the hairnet with tweezers.
Tie moss to wood - this is how it works with fishing line
The hairnet method works primarily on a round base. Fishing line is an excellent tying material for securing moss to a branch or odd-shaped piece of wood. Sewing thread can also be used for this purpose. How to do it right:
- Spray the piece of wood with soft water
- Place the fresh moss on top
- Wrap the moss and branch with the binding material
- Spray again
There's no need to worry about fishing line or sewing thread showing up later. The binding material is completely overgrown by the moss. You can therefore work generously with the cord without worrying.
