With the right care program, you can elicit a long-lasting flowering period from orchids, which usually extends through autumn and winter. This is especially true of the popular Phalaenopsis, which beginners can buy everywhere. Other species and varieties put on their flowers twice a year. Read here how to properly care for the tropical divas.

This is how orchid flowers last a long time
A bright location that is not in full sun with warm temperatures of 18 to 25 degrees Celsius sets the course for a long flowering period. If there is high humidity of 60 to 80 percent, the flower from the rainforest feels right at home. We have compiled the central measures in the care program for you here:
- In case of dryness, immerse the root network in lukewarm, lime-free water
- Add a special fertilizer for orchids to the immersion water every 4 weeks from April to October
- Every 1 to 2 days spray the leaves with soft water
- Do not cut off faded flowers, but let them fall to the ground
- Wipe off dusty leaves with a soft, damp cloth
At intervals of 2 to 3 years, the orchid soil is exhausted because the organic components have decomposed. Repot the plants in early spring if they are not in bloom. Please use a transparent culture pot and coarse pine bark substrate that is tailored to the needs of the aerial roots.
tips
The professional pruning often causes headaches for beginners in the orchid hobby. It's a good thing that a simple rule of thumb points the way: Only dried and dead plant parts are cut off orchids. This applies to the leaves and stems as well as aerial roots and bulbs.
