Your name misleads us. In fact, the Japanese miracle flower comes from the sun-drenched regions of South America. It is therefore obvious that a Mirabilis jalapa is not hardy. You can find out how to overwinter the scented and flowering plant here.

Its tuber contains the vitality for several years
In its habitat, the Japanese magic flower thrives perennial by withdrawing into its robust tuber. In order for the blooming beauty to achieve this masterpiece in the Central European climate, it is overwintered like this:
- Dig up the tubers before the first frost
- Cut off all roots and shorten the shoots to 5 cm
- Just tap off the remaining soil and do not wash it off
In the dark winter quarters, the Japanese miracle flower survives at a cool 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. Place the tubers on an airy shelf or pound them in sand, sawdust, or peat dust. Next year, don't plant out the overwintered tubers again until mid-May at the earliest.
