Coaxing alone will not motivate your amaryllis to another bloom festival. It takes a two to three month period of rest for a knight star to put on its picturesque flower dress in the middle of winter. You can read here how to store the onion correctly during this time.

This is how you prepare the onion for its hibernation
Even though a knight's star only moves into camp in September, the resettlement should already be initiated in the summer. These precautions prepare an amaryllis bulb for its vegetative break:
- Water gradually less in July
- In August let the substrate dry out completely
- Stop fertilizing from the beginning of August
If the knight's star blooms again during the summer, cut off the withered flowers and the main stem as soon as possible. The green leaves remain untouched by the preparatory measures.
Storing an Amaryllis Bulb Properly - Here's how to do it right
Following the preparatory work, the outdoor season for your star star ends in September in a sunny, warm location in the garden or on the balcony. Now put the onion in the pot in a dark room with temperatures between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius. In October, cut off the dead leaves. No further care measures are to be taken until November.
Store garden amaryllis correctly - tips & tricks
A garden amaryllis is just as hardy as a knight star. Please dig up the bulb before the first frost, because the summer flower does not tolerate temperatures below - 1 degree Celsius. At this point, all parts of the plant above the ground have retracted and can be cut off. You can store the onions in several ways:
- Lay the onions side by side on an airy grid, without the skins touching
- Fill a wooden box with sand to keep the tubers dry
- Wrap each onion in several sheets of newspaper and set aside on a shelf
While the rest period for the knight star ends in November, store the garden amaryllis in a cool, dark cellar until March/April.
tips
Amaryllis bulbs should not be stored near ripening fruit. Apples, pears, melons, tomatoes or pumpkins give off the ripening gas ethylene. If the knight star tuber gets into this sphere of influence, it will sprout prematurely under the most unfavorable conditions imaginable.
