Peonies are very hardy in this country. Nevertheless: Freshly planted specimens, those that are in rough locations and in pots, should be protected in winter. But how?

Cut back and protect perennial peonies
Outdoor peonies are cut down in the fall to just above the ground. Then you can cover the growths in the root area with brushwood. However, this protective layer should be removed again in the spring!
Move and protect tub plants
Peonies in tubs do not need to be brought in. They too can stay outside:
- cut down in the fall
- bucket protected e.g. B. on the house wall, under an eaves etc
- Cover the root area with brushwood or fir branches
- in severe frost: wrap bucket with fleece or jute
tips
If you want to bring a shrub peony safely through the winter, you should tie its shoots together to protect them from breaking off due to a snow load.
