Yellow, orange, red, pink, bicolor, densely double, wide open-exposed - the flowers of peonies can be completely different in shape, depending on the variety. But they all have one thing in common: they bloom within a certain period of time. When exactly is this?

As the name suggests, peonies bloom at Pentecost

From May to June

The perennial peonies, which are most commonly planted in local gardens, bloom as early as the beginning of May, depending on the weather. In cooler locations, the flowers open from the end of May/beginning of June. The flowers are present well into June. Shrub/tree peonies also bloom at this time.

Before and after flowering - care

It is advisable to fertilize the peony before flowering to ensure that there are plenty of flowers and that the long stems do not snap off. Watering is extensive during flowering if there is no rain.

After flowering, it's a good idea to cut off the old flowers to prevent seeds from forming (takes a lot of strength). Unless you need the seeds for propagation…
