Hops are a native plant that can cope well with sub-zero temperatures. It withers in the fall, leaving only withered hop tendrils. Overwintering outdoors is not necessary. If you grow the hops in tubs, you should provide some winter protection.

hops are hardy; Snow and frost cannot harm it

You only have to overwinter hops in buckets

Because hops are fully hardy, the plant does not need winter protection. If possible, simply leave the perennial alone until next spring and cut it down completely in February.

If you grow hops in buckets, a light winter protection is advisable. The soil freezes much faster in a pot. Place the bucket on a styrofoam sheet (€35.50) and wrap it in some bubble wrap.

tips

If you are bothered by the dried-up hop residue in winter, cut it down in the fall. However, it is better to leave a remainder. Then the remaining nutrients can migrate into the roots.
