Like many medicinal plants that are native to our latitudes, the ground ivy is not poisonous. It is recommended for many natural medicinal purposes and can also be used raw in the kitchen. However, animals should be kept away from the Gundermann.

Ground ivy is not poisonous to humans
There is no risk of poisoning for people if they eat the medicinal plant, also known as ground ivy, or use it externally as a medicinal plant.
Gundermann contains:
- Essential Oils
- saponins
- bitter substances and tannins
Animals can be poisoned by the saponins contained in the flowers and leaves. They should therefore not be kept on meadows or lawns with Gundermann.
tips
For many gardeners, ground ivy, with its pretty little flowers, is a weed. This is because the plant is proliferating, robbing other plants of light and nutrients. Fighting it is not easy and requires a lot of patience.
