Characteristics and flowering time
The flowers of valerian have the following external characteristics:
- light pink to white
- perched on a tall stalk
- umbrella inflorescence
- hermaphrodite
- numerous 5 to 5 mm large individual flowers
- 5 rounded, detached petals
The loose and airy flower floating above the leaves like a cloud appears in May at the earliest. Most types of valerian flower from June/July. Flowering can last until August. During flowering, you can harvest the flowers for tea or to dry to fill pillows.
