At least the native varieties of the water lilies are sufficiently hardy to stay in the pond all year round. The floating leaves die off, but the underwater leaves remain and ensure oxygen-rich water even in winter.

This is especially important for garden ponds where fish live. If the pond is deep enough, the fish will simply retreat to deeper water when the surface freezes over. Remove the withered floating leaves in autumn so that the water stays fresh, more care is not necessary in winter.
The most important winter tips for water lilies:
- deep garden pond: water lilies overwinter in the pond
- shallow garden pond: do not let the water surface freeze over
- Mini Pond: Overwinter the plant outside of the pond
- suitable winter quarters: cool and dark, covered with water
tips
Remove the withered floating leaves from the pond so that they do not rot there. This keeps the water fresh even in winter.
