The crested lily is not hardy, which it has in common with other lily species such as the Mexican tiger lily. It is ideal as a summer plant for the garden, because it is exotically decorative and easy to care for at the same time.

Crested lilies cannot be overwintered outdoors

Take the crested lily out of the bed and store the bulb in sand or place the planter in a frost-free winter quarters. Ideally, the temperature is between six and nine degrees. Avoid watering and fertilizing the pineapple lily in winter.
