In theory, any tree can be transplanted. It is important that the roots are removed from the ground with as little damage as possible. This is still possible with a young beech. An older beech, on the other hand, should not be transplanted.

You should not replant an older beech. It is hardly possible to get the roots of the beech tree out of the ground undamaged without digging up the whole garden.

On the one hand, technical equipment is required for this, because an older beech tree is very heavy and cannot be moved so easily. Depending on the size of the tree, this may require an excavator and even a crane.

On the other hand, the root system suffers massively from digging up. The more roots are broken off, the more difficult it is for the beech to grow back in its new location.

How to transplant a young beech tree

If the beech has only been in place for a few years, transplanting usually works better.

  • Prepare a new planting hole
  • pruning beech
  • Dig up the tree with as many roots as possible
  • with earth on a cloth e.g. B. Put sheets
  • Use beech at the new location
  • face earth
  • Install support pole
  • Water the beech well
  • don't fertilize!

Be careful not to snap the roots. It is better to cut off bent roots.

Don't tread too hard on the soil to avoid damaging the roots. Sludge the tree well so that it grows faster. However, avoid waterlogging. You should only fertilize the beech in the following year.

Transplant beeches only during the rest period

The right time is a prerequisite for a successful transplant of the beech. Transplanting should only be done during the dormant period.

It is therefore best to replant the beech in autumn. If necessary, you can also do the transplanting in early spring up to February.

The sprouting of leaves and flowers begins in March. Then the beech should no longer be transplanted.
