The Cyprus grass, which is native to Madagascar and Mauritius as well as East Africa, not only looks exotic. It also has 'exotic' location claims. It grows right where most other plants struggle…

Cyprus grass loves it warm and humid

Wet and warm

Whether in the garden pond, in a pot in the bathroom, in a glass on the terrace or in the aquarium - the following applies to the Cyprus grass: the main thing is moist to wet, light and warm.

Also note these tips when choosing a location:

  • Temperature between 15 and 30 °C
  • is not hardy
  • high humidity of around 60%
  • not dark/shady
  • not necessarily protected
  • like direct sun
  • Substrate: not necessary (pebbles and fertilizer are sufficient for hydroponics)
  • in pot culture: loamy, poorly drained, humus-rich substrate

tips

If the Cyprus grass has enough water available, it can serve as a natural room humidifier. It can evaporate up to 2 liters of water per day.
