All parts of real jasmine are poisonous, although the essential oils are used to flavor teas and to make perfumes. In a household with children or animals, it is better not to care for this ornamental plant.

Real jasmine is poisonous!
Real jasmine (Jasminum officinale) contains a large number of essential oils that can cause symptoms of poisoning even if they come into contact with the skin. Poisoning by real jasmine is shown, among other things, by:
- dry mouth
- Vomit
- visual disturbances
- inflamed skin areas
You should therefore always wear gloves when cutting real jasmine. If children and animals are in the house, place the plant out of reach and collect fallen blossoms and leaves immediately.
Real jasmine in aromatherapy and homeopathy
The essential oils are used in aromatherapy and homeopathy, but in such small doses that there is no risk of poisoning when used correctly.
tips
Not only the real jasmine is poisonous. All other ornamental plants commonly referred to as jasmine, such as false jasmine or scented jasmine, also contain toxins.
