Hornbeams grow between 20 and 40 centimeters in height and width every year. If the tree is not pruned, it will reach a height of 20 to 25 meters. It therefore remains smaller than a copper beech.
In the first few years, growth is usually somewhat slower. A hornbeam is considered mature when it is around 20 to 30 years old.
Since hornbeams tolerate pruning very well, growth can be limited very well. Trees that are too tall are best simply cut down in February.
