- Poisonous plants are found everywhere
- If in doubt, keep small children and pets away from poisonous plants
In some lists of non-toxic houseplants, the porcelain flower is listed as a non-toxic plant. However, this does not apply unreservedly to all species, especially since it is often very difficult to distinguish between different subspecies.

Poisonous plants are found everywhere
In principle, the toxicity of plants is not necessarily an exclusion criterion for cultivation in the garden or on the windowsill. Many subspecies of the "Hoya" genus, known in this country as wax flower or porcelain flower, also contain certain toxins in all parts of the plant, the ingestion of which can lead to various symptoms of poisoning. The following plants, which can be found in almost every neighborhood, are also poisonous:
- delphinium
- tree of life
- euonymus
- ivy
- yew
However, only some poisonous plants cause skin irritation when touched, most cause symptoms of poisoning only when taken orally.
If in doubt, keep small children and pets away from poisonous plants
If pets or small children are sometimes left unattended in your home, the wax flower should at least be placed out of reach of them.
tips
Since the more or less poisonous species of the wax flower cannot be distinguished very easily by non-professionals, a certain amount of caution is advised when setting up and caring for the not entirely non-toxic plants.
