While it seems rather inconspicuous in the first year, it will attract everyone's attention in the second year of its existence - the gold lacquer. In order for it to survive the first winter until it blooms, it should be protected from frost.

Overwinter frost-free inside and protected outside
Without protection, the gold lacquer is mercilessly exposed to the frost and freezes to death. He is considered conditionally hardy. Above all, varieties that have double flowers are generally considered to be more sensitive than others. They should preferably only be cultivated in pots and placed indoors in late autumn and overwintered indoors in bright light.
A gold varnish that is meant to be left outside through the winter can:
- be cut down to the base in autumn
- be covered with brushwood or compost
- be overwintered in the cold frame
- be overwintered in the cold house
