The gold lacquer usually only flowers in the second year, from May to June. The flowers rarely appear as early as April. Some hybrid varieties also bloom again in autumn and into November. This includes, for example, the variety 'Bowles Mauve'.

What else you should know:
- if sown in March, flowers may already bloom in autumn
- Clean out old flowers regularly
- for perennial varieties: Cut back heavily after flowering
- wear gloves when handling the flowers (flowers are poisonous)
