Buying plants is not necessarily the best solution for garden lovers, after all, growing them is fun and also makes you proud of your own achievements. The edible cosmea is best suited for this project because it is easy to prepare.
If the Cosmea is preferred indoors, it will flower earlier
If the jewelry basket feels comfortable in its location, then it will open itself there. This shows how easily the seeds germinate, even without special preparation. If you would like to do the sowing yourself, then collect the mature seeds during or after the flowering period. After extraction, dry the seeds. Then keep them dry and dark until sowing.
Sowing the Cosmea
Sow the fine cosmea seeds on a nutrient-poor substrate or soil mixed with sand and cover the seeds only thinly with soil or substrate. It is best to use a water sprayer to moisten so that neither soil nor seeds are washed away.
The seeds should be kept evenly moist throughout the germination period of 14-21 days. The temperature should also remain relatively constant and not fall below 20 °C. This is easier to achieve if you stretch clear film over the seed tray. To prevent mold growth, open the foil regularly.
Planting out the cosmea
When the seedlings are about 8 - 10 cm tall, they are pricked out. However, the soil used should still be low in nutrients. The young Cosmeen may only be planted in the garden after the Ice Saints in May.
Brief instructions for preferring the Cosmea:
- sow thinly on nutrient-poor substrate
- cover lightly with soil or substrate
- moisten with a water sprayer
- Caution! Do not wash away soil and seeds!

- Germination temperature: approx. 20 °C
- possibly cover with transparent foil
- Germination time: about 14 - 21 days
- Prick out seedlings that are about 8 - 10 cm in size

Slowly acclimate your young plants to direct sunlight. Otherwise, the sensitive plants could easily burn and your effort to pull them forward would then be in vain.
