Hussar buttonlets or hussar's heads are annual plants that are propagated by seed in their Central American homeland. The summer flowers are used up after one season and cannot be overwintered.

Hussar buttons cannot be overwintered even in a pot

Cannot hibernate Hussar Button

From June until the onset of frost, lilies bloom all summer long. However, as soon as it starts to freeze, the summer flower, which is not hardy, freezes to death.

It is not possible to hibernate Hussar Knöpfchen. The plant survives only one season and is then used up. Even if you try to overwinter them indoors, you'll only delay the Hussar's Head death by a few weeks.

So that you can enjoy the flowers of the non-poisonous hussar's button again next year, all that remains is to sow them again next spring.

tips

Hussar's heads with their long, drooping shoots are ideal plants for hanging baskets. Hussar button itself is only about 30 centimeters high and can also be well cared for in the rock garden as a ground cover.
