They have been in the neighbor's bed for years. There they bloom exuberantly and to be honest - you get jealous. So why not plant horned violets yourself? But the question is: when?

Planting of preferred horned violets
Most gardeners choose pre-loved horned violets from their trusted garden center. These should be planted in mid-May, preferably after the ice saints when no more frost is to be expected.
In the past, horned violets should not be planted outdoors at their location. Otherwise there is a risk of frostbite. Horned violets were not hardened in the greenhouse or covered garden center.
Sowing - in the house and in the bed
The sowing differs from the planting of early horned violets. First you should consider whether you want to sow the horned violets at home, in the conservatory or directly in the bed. Attention: Germination can take a long time. To speed up the seeds should be rubbed with sand before sowing. This will scratch the shell and make it easier to break through.
For home and conservatory sowing, seeds should be sown between March and May. Then it means:
- Press seeds lightly and moisten (light germinators)
- Keep in the dark for 10 days and keep the soil moist
- when cotyledons are visible, move the seed tray to a bright place
Direct sowing in the bed takes place between August and March on a frost-free day. The flowers appear in spring. Alternatively, the seeds can be sown between May and July. They will then bloom absolutely magnificently next summer.
tips and tricks
In general, it is not advisable to plant horned violets during their flowering period. Already the flowering weakens the plant. An additional change of location would mean enormous stress.
