Particularly beautiful jasmine varieties often cannot be replaced because they are not commercially available. However, you can get offshoots from cuttings quite easily. Tips for cutting and propagating by cuttings.

Take cuttings in spring or summer
Cuttings for propagating jasmine are best cut in spring or summer. Look for shoots that are already slightly woody. These are mostly branches from the previous year.
Cut the cuttings at a slight angle with a sharp knife. They should be about 10 to 15 centimeters long.
Remove any lower leaves. If bud approaches are recognizable, they are removed. If the jasmine leaves are very large, cut them in half. This is not necessary for small leaves.
Prepare small pots
- clean pot
- Fill in the plant substrate
- If necessary, make the plant substrate sterile
You can use simple garden soil mixed with some ripe compost and sand or expanded clay (€19.73) as a plant substrate. If you don't have it, buy special potting soil at a garden store.
The soil must be germ-free, otherwise the cuttings will quickly become moldy or rot. Place the soil in the hot oven for a few minutes to sterilize it.
The cuttings are inserted about five centimeters deep into the moistened soil. Then press the soil firmly.
The right location for the cuttings
Heat is important! Place the pots in a sheltered, bright, warm spot. Temperatures around 20 degrees are ideal.
Keep the soil moist. It is even better if you protect the pot with a clear plastic bag. The cover ensures good air and soil moisture. But do not forget to periodically remove the hood to air the cuttings.
More than two years pass before the first flowering
New leaves should have formed on the cutting by next spring. Now you can plant it in a larger pot.
It takes at least two years for the jasmine to bloom for the first time.
