The bob haircut is absolutely easy to care for. Because of its hanging branches, it is often used as a traffic light plant. It can be cut very well, so that you can hardly do anything wrong even as a beginner. When should you cut a bob and what do you have to consider?

The bob haircut can be cut and shaped as desired

Reasons to cut the bob haircut

  • Shorten shoots in length
  • rejuvenate plant
  • cut cuttings
  • Shape your bob haircut

Simply cut off shoots that are too long

The shoots of the bob haircut become quite long over time. If they get too long for you, just cut them off. Use normal kitchen scissors for this. A knife is not so good for shortening the shoots.

You can cut the shoots at any time. The bobbed hair recovers from this very quickly.

Rejuvenate bobbed hair by cutting

Older bob haircuts tend to yellow in the middle and become bald. The reason for this is that the shoots get too little light.

Simply cut out the yellow or dead branches so that new, green shoots can form. Then more light reaches the center of the plant again.

Cut cuttings for propagation

The bobbed hair can be easily propagated by cutting cuttings. This is best done in spring or summer.

Cut shoots five to six centimeters long. Strip off the lower leaves. Stick them into prepared nursery pots (£14.60) and keep them evenly moist. The cuttings root particularly well if you put a plastic bag over the young plants.

After a short time, the cuttings take root and can then be transplanted into normal potting soil.

Cut the bob into shape

The bob haircut does not bear its name wrongly. Its shoots hang down and give the plant the appearance of the hairstyle of the same name. You can even cut the bob into shape if you want it to be particularly spherical.

To make the shape nice and even, make a template or buy one at a hardware store.

tips

Even if you can still read it sometimes: the bobbed haircut is not poisonous! So you can care for this houseplant indoors with peace of mind, even if there are children and pets around.
