Mountain mint, also known as rock thyme, is an easy-care, perennial shrub. The green leaves are a popular herb. In a favorable location, the leaves get a particularly intense aroma and give off a strong scent of peppermint, especially when touched.

Calamint likes to be in the sun

Sunny and not too dry

Bergmint is native to the Mediterranean region. It therefore loves a location in the middle of the sun. Only there do the leaves get the typical mint aroma. Also, only in a sunny spot will many of the pretty blue flowers develop, which bloom well into the fall.

The soil should be sandy and permeable to water, because calamint does not tolerate waterlogging at all. However, the soil must never dry out completely and must be watered regularly.

If calamint is grown in a bucket or balcony box, the planter should be placed in a full sun location.

tips

Calamint tends to spread by stolons. Therefore, place a root barrier when planting or put the herb in a bucket or balcony box.
