Due to its Mediterranean origin (Canary Islands, Madeira), the bird of paradise flower is unfortunately not winter-proof in this country. So if you want to admire their flowers every year, you should overwinter them properly.

Find a suitable place to live
Since the 'parrot flower' does not tolerate frost, it should be overwintered frost-free. Temperatures between 10 and 14 °C are ideal for wintering. A shady place is also important. Bring the plant indoors from mid/late September and put it in one of the following locations, for example:
- staircase
- bedroom
- hallway
- conservatory
Strelitzia reginae hardly needs any care in winter. Fertilizers should be avoided entirely. You should only water this plant from time to time (sparingly!) so that the soil does not dry out.
tips
If the bird of paradise flower does not bloom in spring, the temperatures in the winter quarters may be too warm. This plant needs a rest period in which it can gather new strength.
