In order for the royal flowers to bloom as splendidly as desired, it is important to put them in the right place. Only here do the sun-loving plants enchant the garden with their beautiful shoots.

Gladioli love the sun
The perfect location for the gladiolus is a warm, full sun and at the same time sheltered from the wind in the flower bed. Windbreaks or tying to plant stakes is important, as the long, slender flowering shoots tend to snap. Alternatively, you can plant the gladiolus in front of a fence and tie the shoots directly to the property boundary.
Avoid waterlogging
Gladioli evaporate a lot of water through the large flowers and leaves and therefore have to be watered regularly, not only on hot days. Nevertheless, waterlogging should be avoided, as the bulbs that are permanently in the moisture quickly begin to rot.
In locations with clayey or compacted soil, you should therefore put a drainage layer of sand in each planting hole. Loosen the soil deeply so that the water can drain off well.
tips
Be sure to plant onions that are at least two years old. The small one-year-old seed bulbs and the daughter bulbs of older bulbs put out leaves but have not yet flowered.
