Wet meadows can offer a fantastic sight from spring to early summer when the cuckoo flower blooms profusely there. Unfortunately, this sight is becoming increasingly rare, so that this weed is already protected in some federal states.

Meadowfoam blooms in spring

From around the end of March to June, the non-toxic cuckoo flower blooms in delicate white, pale pink or light violet. It prefers to grow on nutrient-rich wet meadows or in alluvial forests, but can also be found on many a lawn.

Like the other types of bittercress, its slightly pungent taste makes it ideal for use in herbal cooking. However, it should only be consumed in small amounts because of its stomach-irritating effect.

The essentials in brief:

  • Flower color white, pink or pale lilac
  • Flowering period late March to June
  • loves moist soil
  • Flowers and herb edible

tips

If you want to eat the meadow smock, it is best to harvest it before it blooms, otherwise its taste will be slightly bitter.
