Horn clover, which is often found in sparse forests, at the edges of forests and in meadows, belongs to the lepidopteran family and is therefore a legume. The medicinal plant, which grows up to 30 centimeters high, is available in many different types and varieties and can quickly be confused with other types of clover.

Horn clover pleases with a long flowering period

Flowering time between May and September

Horn clover has a very long flowering period: the bright yellow, often slightly purple-coated flowers can be found in many places between May and September. The flower nectar is very rich in sugar with a share of about 40 percent and is therefore very popular with both bees and butterflies.

Collect and dry flowers

Horn clover has also been used as a medicinal plant since the 19th century, although only the flowers are collected. You can pick these carefully during the flowering period and then dry them carefully. In principle, only dry, clean and healthy flowers are dried, which are spread out over a large area on a cloth or similar in an airy, warm and shady place. However, they should not discolour during the process.

tips

Horn clover is also edible. The flowers are suitable as a decoration for salads or desserts, the intensively tasting leaves flavor stews, soups and vegetables.
