Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has a reason for its Latin name, after all, the Greek hero Achilles is said to have used the plant to treat wounds. Even dried yarrow or purchased preparations can be used as natural remedies for a wide range of ailments.

Pour boiling water over about two teaspoons of the dried flowers and let the mixture steep for about 15 minutes. Then you can strain the flowers and sip the tea slowly. Make a tincture of yarrow

A tincture of yarrow can be made from the delicate herb and used for similar purposes as tea. To do this, put about 45 grams of yarrow herb in 250 milliliters of 70% alcohol and leave the mixture to stand for about 8 days. After straining, 20 drops at a time can be taken with water or tea to relieve indigestion and cramps. Due to the alcohol contained, this method of application is only suitable for use in adults.

Relax in a full bath containing yarrow

A good way to benefit from the positive effects of the essential oils contained in yarrow is to take a full bath with yarrow additives. To do this, about 100 grams of freshly harvested or dried yarrow herb is steeped in 2 liters of hot water. After about 20 minutes, the herb can be strained and the brew poured into a full bath or sitz bath at the desired temperature. Baths with yarrow extracts are usually used for:

  • menstrual cramps
  • spasms in the pelvic area
  • Inflammation in the genital area

Here, too, it should be noted that people who are sensitive or prone to allergies may experience reactions in the wetted skin areas.
