Although cats are predominantly carnivores, they don't turn down a piece of juicy tomato. Kitties are also welcome to eat a fully ripe fruit, because this way they get plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Nevertheless, consumption can be dangerous for velvet paws. Increased caution applies in the following circumstances:

- Never feed cats green tomatoes
- unripe fruits contain toxic solanine
- Always cut out the green stalk of ripe tomatoes
- do not let them nibble on the green parts of the plant
The content of toxic solanine only decreases over the course of the ripening period and tends towards zero in ripe tomatoes. There's no use cutting green spots out of a tomato. Cooking and frying also has no effect on the solanine concentration.
