What is a plush?
The so-called Plunscher, sometimes also referred to as a gravel box, is the simplest and most cost-effective version of a gravel pump. The long metal or steel pipe with a flap is used in combination with wooden tongs and a strong rope to transport the drilled well or the well pipe as safely and stably as possible deep(er) into the groundwater.
Why do you have to plop the fountain?
If you continue drilling with the auger from the water-bearing layer, the water washes away the walls of the well, so that the hole keeps filling with gravel, sand and earth. Only with the help of a plumber or a gravel pump can you penetrate deeper into the water-bearing layer and lead the garden fountain several meters into the groundwater.
How does a plush work?
1. Lower the plush. The flap opens on impact. Steel pipe is filled with a sandy, gravelly and muddy mixture.
2. Pull the Pluscher slightly up on the rope with a swing. The flap closes due to the negative pressure generated. Repeat multiple times.
3. Pull the plush all the way up and empty. Drive the well pipe deeper into the water-bearing layer.
4. Repeat the process. Water level in the well pipe rises. Slurp until you're deep enough for your purposes.
What distinguishes the Plunscher from a gravel pump?
Both the plush and gravel pump appear as a metal or steel tube with a non-return cap and are used for plushing. However, the gravel pump is not operated by lowering and lifting, but by a piston rod. With several piston movements you suck the sand-gravel-mud mixture into the pipe until it is full. The rest is like with a plush.

Plunschers are usually available in all larger hardware stores such as OBI, toom, hagebaumarkt, Hornbach or Bauhaus. Can I build a plusher myself?
