Just looking at the fully draped berry bushes makes your mouth water. Many people with a sweet tooth can hardly wait until the plants in the garden bear fruit again. With a coordinated choice of plants, the harvest time can be extended as much as possible, because the berry season varies with each species.

strawberries
Strawberry plants have a season that extends mainly from May to July. There are varieties that flower again after the first harvest and can be harvested from late summer to autumn. Monthly strawberries, which are derived from the wild wild strawberries, develop fruit continuously until October or early November. With an extension in the polytunnel (€11.46), the season starts earlier due to the favorable conditions.
Varieties overview:
- early varieties: 'Elvira', 'Clery' or 'Honeoye'
- bearing twice: 'Ostara'
- month strawberry: ,To reprimand'
- late varieties: 'Symphony' or 'Thuriga'
raspberries
Raspberries are harvested between June and September. There are some varieties that bear fruit twice a year and thus herald an off-season in October. You can pick the berries from the rods until the first frosts.
summer raspberries
This group bears fruit continuously from June to July, whereby the variety of varieties also ensures variety in color and taste. Classic varieties such as 'Tulameen' or 'Meeker' produce red raspberries, while 'Golden Queen' develops yellow berries. 'Black Jewel' is a black-fruited variety.
autumn raspberries
All cultivated forms from this category flower from July and experience their fruit ripening from August. 'Autumn Bliss' is the oldest and most popular raspberry because it bears large fruits and is considered to be extremely robust. About 14 days after her, the cultivar 'Himbo Top' matures. In general, summer varieties taste more aromatic than the shrubs that bear berries later.
blackberries
The main season for local berries falls between June and September. In the forest and in good conditions in the garden, the shrubs can be harvested into October. The blackberries, which are initially green in color and black when fully ripe, ripen one after the other on the rods so that you can pick them continuously. 'Choctaw' and 'Wilson's Early' are early maturing cultivars. 'Loch Ness', 'Baby Cakes' and 'Jumbo' occupy a position among the middle varieties. Late-bearing blackberry varieties include 'Oregon Thornless', 'Asterina' and 'Thornfree'.
blueberries
Blueberry season varies depending on the variety planted. In Germany, cultivated blueberries are planted, which have emerged from an American original species. Location and weather also play a role in harvest time. The fruit development extends over a period of 70 to 100 days, so that the main harvest takes place from June to September. The low season can fall in May or in October. A bush produces about four to five kilograms of berries if it is harvested several times within a few weeks.
tips
Blueberries are ready to be harvested when the base of the stalk on the fruit appears dark blue.
