Anyone who likes to eat cherries can collect many cherry stones over the course of a summer. These can be further processed into a valuable remedy, the warming or cooling cherry stone pillow. For this purpose, however, the cores must be thoroughly cleaned and then dried. You can find out how to do this in this article.

Before they can be turned into a pillow, cherry pits must be cleaned and dried

clean cores

After enjoying, there is usually still a little pulp on the cherry stones. This can be removed as follows:

  1. First wash the fruit stones under clear water.
  2. You can loosen larger pieces of fruit with a vegetable brush.
  3. Put the cherry stones in a large saucepan with water.
  4. Bring to the boil and simmer until the flesh has completely separated.
  5. Pour everything into a sieve and wash off the residue under running water.

Dry cherry stones

You can lay the fruit stones on towels in the sun to dry them. It's faster in the oven:

  1. Spread the cherry stones on a baking sheet.
  2. Make sure that these are not on top of each other, otherwise they will dry unevenly.
  3. Turn on the oven to 50 degrees
  4. Stick a cooking spoon in the door to keep it slightly ajar. This allows the moisture to escape.
  5. Dry the cherry stones for about six hours.

Drying in a warm place in the house also works well. Place the pits on newspaper and turn the pits over and over again. The drying time is about two weeks.

Sew cherry pit pillows yourself

For this you need:

  • Not too loosely woven cotton fabric in the desired pillow size
  • Matching sewing thread
  • sewing machine and sewing needle
  • scissors
  • 300 to 500 dried cherry stones

production

  1. Cut the fabric to a size of 20 x 30 centimeters.
  2. If you prefer a round cushion, use a plate as a template and cut the fabric accordingly.
  3. Place the pieces of fabric right sides together.
  4. Sew together on three sides with a seam allowance of 0.75 centimeters.
  5. For a round pillow, leave an opening of about 10 centimeters for turning.
  6. Turn the pillowcase right side out.
  7. Fill in as many cherry stones that the pillow remains cuddly.
  8. Close the turning opening by hand with the ladder stitch.

tips

Be careful not to overheat the cherry pit pillow in the oven. Blow the pillow in the tube at 150 degrees for 12 minutes at most. Alternatively, you can put it in the microwave at a maximum of 600 watts for 1 to 2 minutes.
