Wouldn't it be nice to preserve the colorfulness of flowers and, for example, to enjoy them again and again? Unfortunately, the shelf life of the fresh flowers is very limited. In the vase, they usually begin to wither within a week. However, there are various ways to preserve flowers in such a way that they do not lose any of their beauty.

glycerin
Glycerin is able to bind liquids. If you place flowers in a mixture of this sugar alcohol and water, entire bouquets can be easily dried in this way:
- Mix water and glycerin in a two to one ratio.
- Cut the flowers fresh so that the plants can absorb the liquid well.
- Strip off leaves that would protrude into the substance.
- Drying is complete as soon as no more droplets escape from the flowers.
Individual flower heads can also be dried with glycerin. Just put the flowers in the solution for a few days until they are preserved.
dry salt
Dry salt preserves the colors of the flowers particularly well. However, the absorption capacity of the salts is limited. The plants that you want to conserve in this way must therefore not be too damp.
- Pour dry salt into a sufficiently large container.
- Put flowers in and fill with salt.
- Seal tightly and leave in a warm place for at least two weeks.
Air drying
This is the classic method that works particularly well with solid flowers. It is just as suitable for a whole bouquet as for a single flower that reminds you of a special event.
- Tie the bouquet tightly. A hanging strap is knotted to individual flowers.
- Hang the flowers upside down in a breezy, dark place.
- If the plants rustle when touched, they are completely dry and can be removed.
- Finally spray with clear coat.
Preserve flowers with wax
With a coating of wax, you can give flowers a fancy color and preserve them at the same time. This method is particularly suitable for single flowers, which then serve as an attractive room decoration.
- Melt leftover candle or craft wax in a water bath.
- The temperature should not rise above 60 degrees. Check with a thermometer!
- Dip the flowers upside down into the wax.
- Place on newspaper or in a vase to dry.
tips
You can preserve individual flowers in the oven or a dehydrator. Place them on the wire rack and dry the flowers on the lowest setting for several hours until they are completely dry to the touch.
